Computer Programmers are one of the most important jobs out there in the technology world. They are the back bone for most companies. They help communicate with the computer and the programs that are on them. Computer programmers write, test, and maintain the detailed instructions, called programs (Computer Programming Careers, Jobs, and Training Information). Now in this field what is exactly do I have to do to become a successful computer programmer? To become a programmer you must first go to college and get a bachelor’s degree, but a two- year degree or certificate will be just fine for some jobs. Some hold a degree in computer science, mathematics, or information systems. Many may have also taken special courses in accounting, finance, or another area of business. While they are in school they learn a skill of communicating with the computer in another language. Although knowledge of traditional programming languages still is important, employers are placing an emphasis on newer, object-oriented languages and tools such as C++ and Java (Computer Programmer Salary). If you do find a job that you like and they need some special skills you may have to go back to a two-year college to take extra courses. It is easier for person who has a bachelor’s degree and experience with a variety of languages and tools. Just for a computer programmer to start out in the field they could make on average $49,928 per year in 2007(Computer Programming Careers, Jobs, and Training Information). Now if you are a development/analyst you could make $55,250-$90,250, and $60,250-$94,750 as a software developer (Computer Programmer Salary). As you are in the work field most jobs are looking for programmers who are skilled in a special language involving such technical features like Graphic User Interface (GUI).
