The Lord of the flies uses symbolism to touch on a deeper meaning than one sees with their eyes. From the boys first meeting where the conch was used to summon the lost boys, to the lord of the flies foreshadowing the fate of the group. William Golding hinted to civilization and the feelings of humans throughout his novel with the use of symbols. The use of many symbols helped Golding to relate to the reader and also leaves a deeper theme into the readers head. Ralph and Piggy used the conch to summon the lost boys to a meeting on the rocks. From this point on the conch represented civilization and order. They used the conch as permission when having meetings; you must be holding the conch to speak. It became respected by all the children even Jack who "laid the conch with great care in the grass at his feet"(pg.127) after being humiliated when he was not elected leader. As the conch began to loss authority the boys turned more and more into savages. Jack breaks away from ralphs group and gives a sacrifice of a sows head to the beast. When Simon comes across the stack with the sows head he begins to have a telepathic message with Simon and says “"Fancy thinking that the beast was something that you could hunt and kill!... You knew, didn't you? That I'm part of you?"(pg. 143) He then goes into a seizure and wakes up with his nose bleeding.
