Have you ever been hit in the head with a basketball? Being hit with a basketball on the head can be dangerous and cause a concussion, we need to prevent this. Basketball players suffer from concussions, they happen in separate ways and affect players, basketball players need to do everything they can to prevent these instances. Concussions happen in basketball, usually with a pass or missed shot that hits someone’s head, or if two players collide or swing at each other. In a game in 2018, two-time MVP Giannis went for a pass to his teammate, but instead hit the MVP of that season James Harden in the head, (nba.com). When this happens, a concussion is caused. A concussion is an M.T.B.I. mild traumatic brain injury (MILD). This causes your brain to rattle inside your skull. This can destroy short term memory and confuse you. One-time DPOY Draymond Green went for a screen and cut pass to 5-time all-star Klay Thompson, (nba.com). Statistics show that most NBA players and athletes in general's playing time goes down in the two seasons after their concussion by 36% (DeFroda, Steven 2022). This much of a decrease in playing time could take a player from being an MVP to a borderline all-star simply because they can't play enough. A mild concussion still has a big effect on athletes. If they can return in the same season, on average the recovery takes 37.5 days, (DeFroda, Steven 2022). much of the time needed for recovery could severely change players and teams’ seasons.
