Confidentiality means not sharing information about people without their knowledge and agreement, and ensuring that written and electronic information cannot be accessed or read by people who have no reason to see it.
Confidentiality is important because:
Resident’s may not trust a care worker who doesn’t keep information confidential
Resident’s may not feel valued or able to keep their self esteem if their private details are shared with others
Resident’s safety may be put at risk if details of their property and habits are shared publicly.

Never mention any thing that happens at work to any one that doesn’t work there. If you need to send something by post send it by recorded delivery and that the person it is addressed to signs for it the other end. If you send an email make sure the privacy settings are all up to date.
Confidentiality is essential in health care to improve trust and working relationships between residents and the staff. Certain information is however shared among the team if it is needed to effectively support the residents and others involved in their care. Take for example, if there is a risk of danger or harm to the resident, staff or members of the public, if abuse is suspected, or if there is suspected misconduct of a member of the care team.
