Many action movies can be very predictable and melodramatic, but however usually military movies do a pretty good job of avoiding the basics. Considering the fact that so many Americans have high respect for the military, this movie would appeal to a wider audience. American Sniper was a movie about the Navy Seal Sniper who killed Osama Bin Laden, their life in the military, and the emotions felt after the war. The main conflict in the movie was between Chris Kyle, sniper for the Navy Seals, and Mustafa, a sniper for the enemy, taking him out with a risky long shot exposes his team’s hideout forcing them to move. Throughout the movie Chris Kyle is referred to as the “legend” because of his many kills, and amazing ability: this is shown through many intense scenes of him scooping up while his teammates are talking through the walkie. The main conflict in the movie between Chris Kyle and Mustafa, who are both valued by their team tremendously because of their capability to snipe the enemy. Chris Kyle talks about his feelings when seeing Bin Laden’s face through the scope before and after killing him when he got back from the war, and the way he described his feelings made the room intense. He describes how fierce they had to be moving through the house, and also says when he sees Bin Laden’s face through the scope he did not wait a split second before firing. Although the movie is actioned packed and interesting to watch there are some more softer scenes that can be harder to watch for someone who was in the military. During the movie many partners of Chris Kyle had either died, or been badly injured trying to find Bin Laden and Mustafa. For veterans this could bring back memories of all the horrible things they had to see while at war. Many veterans come home with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from the war, this is a mixture of hearing helicopters, planes, exploding bombs, screaming from their injured partners, gun-shots. This can cause them to have a period of time where they are not themselves where they can blank out often, or have tantrums thinking that they are back in the warzone. PTSD can also have visual effects such as bad dreams or “visions” of the time they spent in the war, and sadly these dreams can cause major distress for the person experiencing them. Having went into that, there is two scenes where Chris Kyle is at home and has an outbreak from his PTSD, which can be hard for people to watch considering what he has went through. For a veteran or family member of one this can be tough to watch because they are able to sympathize so well what he and his family are going
