Simply looking at the background of Deontology it derives from the Greek language for duty and reason. Deontology is a moral theory that guides what we ought to do and assesses the intent of each action. Deontologists obviously focus on the action, so naturally they would be in opposition with consequentialists. With that said Deontological arguments work best in relation and contrasting with consequentialist theory, also Deontology is the most logical moral decision making paradigm to follow.
