The years leading to the Cold War and the time during the Cold War was a great era of espionage, secrets, and propaganda. During this time there was a great deal of distrust and fear in the minds of Americans. The Americans distrusted some parts of our government and any commie. The Americans feared nuclear fallout or a nuclear war. The Cold War was a fight to stop the spread of communism in the world. The Communistic society is basically the opposite of a capitalist society so, the foreign affairs and relations with the communistic countries have never been to good. The war was filled with propaganda, Red scares, espionage and secretes. The war could also be seen as a battle of good versus evil. This war was officially over in 1991 making the war about 45 years long. The reasons America is not in this war today is because the American government put polices into place like the Containment policy and the Brinkmanship policy. The Containment policy was put in place to contain communism, until communism causes its own destruction from within. This policy was effective at keeping communism out of West Germany, Europe, Turkey and Grease. The Brinkmanship policy was more of a retaliation policy that was pretty affective at scaring the Reds with the thought of total inhalation upon the attack of America. The Brinkmanship policy did bring us very close to an atomic war when the U2 spy plane was shot down. America and the U.S.S.R were close to an atomic war when the American Government found and executed two German spies, and when the U.S.S.R gave missiles to the Cubans in the Cuban Missile Crisis. All of this Chaos affected the Psychological state of the American people in a negative way. The American people were scared for their lives making bomb shelters, and constantly looking over their shoulders for the threats of the
