Controversial Issues In Roe V. Wade

There are many controversial issues that have developed throughout the years in the United States of America and among them is the issue of abortion. There is the question that arises in any controversial issue as to what is morally right and what is wrong, what a person should be able to do and what they should not. This is how cases reach the Supreme Court as was the case of Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey. The issue in Roe v. Wade was if abortion was protected by the Due Process of the Fourteenth Amendment in which the court ruled in Roe’s favor. The case of Roe v. Wade initiated because Norma McCorvey wanted to get an abortion. At the time of her decision she already had a five-year-old girl and to add to her situation she was a high school drop out with very limited money. In addition, she was also divorced. She believed that an abortion would be the answer to her pregnancy however, the state of Texas did not allow this at the time unless if it was for the purpose of saving the mother’s life. Wade the decision was not correctly decided like Justice Rehnquist mentioned in his statement for his disagreement with the case. He stated that in the history of the United States human life has been meant to be preserved and not to be killed. In addition, with today’s technology the fetus can live outside the womb at an earlier time then before so the issue of viability arises again. Also, taking into consideration that much of the Court’s ruling was done away with in Planned Parenthood v. Casey. In the second case, Planned Parenthood v. Casey, the ruling was done correctly because the restrictions that are placed are like any other restrictions placed for any type of medical procedure. For instance, when going into surgery a person has to be informed, give consent and if the patient is a minor consent has to be given by the parents or a legal
