Controversy In Youth Sports

One problem in youth sports today is coaches and families are always saying, “we’re just out here to have fun” but statistics are showing that the parents and coaches are saying that it is becoming anything but that. In 2013 Liberty Mutual Insurance conducted a survey to see how parents and coaches are viewing the sports. In the survey it was found 75% of parents enrolled their kids in sports for fun, while 36% of coaches have claimed to have a problem with parents being too competitive (“Parents”). This is showing that not only are the parents unaware of the fact that they are being disruptive for their kids and the other parents, but they are yelling and being far too competitive towards coaches, majority of which are volunteers (“Parents”). Out of the same survey Liberty Mutual Insurance found that 55% of parents admitted to yelling at their own children and 44% admitted to yelling at other people’s children. For example, it shows responsibility, dedication, and courage. It shows these things through the responsibility and dedication to show up to the sports for practices and work hard. It shows courage, although a kid might not be a superstar they not only are showing courage by not caring but that same kid might also be helping, just having someone next to them in a sport, helps them carry on through the event, game, or whatever it is they do. Sports also brings better physical condition than your prior self, and helps you develop teamwork which helps people who might be socially awkward or have aspergers connect with someone (“At Issue: Sports for Children”) , sports help people through tough times, and make people strive in good times, sports aren’t all
