INTERVIEW REFLECTION
The Interview I had with my friend was so interesting and has given me more knowledge on religion in American culture. The greatest thing I learned from the interviews was Thomas Jefferson phrase of “separation of church and state,” which has created a lot of controversy from his time till now in American society. I used to have the view that American is a nation of religion so any religious activity should be allow in anywhere without government interferences as it is stated in the constitutional First Amendment (Bill of Right), Freedom of Religion. One may argue that religious right is also being violating by removing religious thing like the ten commandment monument, from public places. One question that I may asked is does religion own public places? If ‘yes’ then it violation, but if ‘no ‘then the government as well as Thomas Jefferson right. In order not violate anybody right it is good to make public place free of any activities or things that will bring controversy to the nation. In addition, government should be separated from religious affiliation in order to rule the nation fairly and not in be in one-side, as Abraham Lincoln stated “Government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the Earth.” I have known that laws are made for reason but the interpretation of it is what bring the problem. Thomas Jefferson phrase of “separation of church and state,” as I know now was not to destroy religion, but to make us free from being force to join any religion or do religious thing not from our own willing as it was in Europe and now in some countries. In conclusion, separation of church and state should not be consider as against any religion, but rather should be consider as way of equality and peace
