To begin, music has been part of societies for many centuries, so what influenced opera? In the medieval ages there was the rise of the polyphonic art, this helped expand the freedom of the voice allowing them to move around in choirs and in the churches. There would be a soloist or a few voices singeing loader or quicker with a choir in the back. Then the renaissance era introduces secular music, which started recognizing woman singers who in the future become a big part in opera. The era started forming poetry with music adding word painting and madrigals.
