In the book “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald, one of the themes that clearly shown the American Dream and expectations. The main character of the book, Jay Gatsby depicts the corrupted and uncorrupted versions of the American Dream. Mr. Gatsby worked really hard ever since he was a child and he achieved his corrupted dream, wealth. His dreams were incomplete he was missing, love. Jay couldn't get with his dream girl Daisy. The theme that gathered from book is an unfulfilled American Dream and expectations that Gatsby made for himself.
Now it is clear that Gatsby has an incomplete American Dream. One of the key facts was he worked really hard. There is a passage in a book “He was a son of God—a phrase which, if it means anything, means just that—and he must be about His Father's business, the service of a vast, vulgar, and meretricious beauty. So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end” (68) shows his background how he worked hard. Gatsby had optimistic character. Nick mentioned “He stretched out his arms toward the dark water in a curious way, and, far as I was from him, I could have sworn he was trembling. Involuntarily I glanced seaward – and distinguished nothing except a single green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of a dock.” (20) He always looked forward and never gave up. The green light was a symbol for him to never giving up on his big dream. His thoughts was valuable and acceptable but the big mistake was focus on one thing.
