Why should Cosmetologists teach and practice ways good nutrition affects the hair, skin, and nails? One of the main factors of Cosmetology is to make people feel good about themselves. As a Cosmetologist, you are not only doing someone's hair, you are counseling them with their problems and guiding them by sharing helpful information to help your client feel good about his or her self image. Diet plays a huge role in a person's self image including six classes of nutrients our body needs. These nutrients consists of carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins, proteins, and water.

Anyone can go to the store and buy a product that helps the look of your hair, but most people are unaware that your diet, and what you eat on a daily basis can contribute to the look and feel of your hair. Many factors can lead to hair loss including stress, deficiencies, and hormonal imbalance. Men and women who are concerned about their weight tend to go on a diet where they are strict on the intake of the foods they eat. When they are on this uptight diet, they lack the nutrients the body needs contributing to hair loss. Zinc is a mineral in some foods and supplements that helps prevent hair loss in both men and women by binding proteins.
