Once Martin Luther was excommunicated from the Catholic Church because he challenged the church on so many issues (like people having to pay to get relatives out of Purgatory) the church leaders decided they needed to do something to keep people in the church. They did not want to lose any more people to Protestantism. The Council of Trent has been known as the embodiment of the Counter Reformation. Starting in 1545 and holding three sessions the last being held in 15632 with 225 people in session.
Presidents of the Council were Popes Paul III, Julius III, and Pius IV. The Council of Trent needed to plan a counter attack against Martin Luther and the Protestants. Their counter attack included making sure church leaders agreed on how to run
