Definition Essay: Courage Courage is something mentioned in fiction and realistic fiction alike, even in real-life, but what is courage? Most would think of the cowardly lion from The Wizard of Oz who sought out courage from the Wizard. Or perhaps, a “Dungeons and Dragons” character who put their life on the line for the party. These are just fictional examples. Courage could be used to speak out against discrimination in many cases of peaceful protest. Along with this, someone like Emilia Earhart, who decided to fly across the world, even if she mysteriously disappeared. Courage is like a decision and a feeling at the same time, like a form of bravery. Courage in fantasy fiction is very recognizable, especially in the all-time classic The Wizard of Oz or the version of Wicked on Broadway Either way, courage is eminently seen within the characters. The Cowardly Lion sought out courage from the Wizard, and pushed through, although with help from Dorothy, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow.
