Household from Zusak’s The Book Thief
“Courage is not the absence of fear but the acquired ability to move beyond fear.” In Zusak’s The Book Thief courageous acts are displayed throughout the novel by many characters in the Hubermann household. Set in Molching, Germany during WWII, a young girl moves in with a painter named Hans and his wife, Rosa. During Hitler’s rise to power, they begin to house a Jew, putting the family in immediate danger. Characters from Zusak’s The Book Thief, the Hubermann household, show acts of courage through bravery, rebellion and acts of selflessness.
Many acts of selflessness are displayed in Zusak’s The Book Thief by characters in the Hubermann household. When the Nazis
