McDonald’s was sued by Stella Liebeck. The case was brought up because the 79 year old woman was served hot coffee that was so hot and dropped it on her lap. Ms.Liebeck suffered third degree burns due to how hot the coffee was. She was adding cream and sugar when the coffee spilled.Ms.Liebeck's car was in park and not moving, she was also the passenger. Ms. Liebeck was wearing sweatpants which trapped the coffee in and burned her inner thighs causing her to need to be rushed to the ER. When the lawsuit came to an end McDonald’s gave Ms.Liebeck nearly $3 million dollars. McDonald’s handbook says that the coffee must be at 180 to 190 degrees fahrenheit. Just to show how hot that is if human skin comes into contact with water at 150 degrees
