Discriminatory practices happen in health and social care settings when some groups are more vulnerable to this than others. They are groups of people who are frequently the focus of specific and powerful forms of prejudice and unfair discrimination of society in general. The unfair discrimination is when an individual or groups of people are treated unfairly or less favourably in comparison to other. Discriminatory practice can be seen in the way people behave like the infringement of someone rights. This is where the rights of the individual is not respected and not making them practice their cultured, causing them to feel devalued and very sad that will affect their health.
The covert abuse of power which is a hidden use of power to discriminate, causing professionals in health and social care to treat someone differently from one another, that is means the level of treatment is not the same which can jeopardise your health and wellbeing. For example applying for senior registrar position, although you have the same experience and qualification as the other applicants you are not being short listed because of your skin colour or sexuality. The negative ideas arising from the person can affect the individual’s health and social care prejudice. For example having a negative thoughts about people having tattoo all over their body but later may find that they are friendly, interesting people when you talked to them. Stereotyping is the assumptions that is made about an individual, these wrong assumptions may lead to people harmed or can affect their health care. Stereotyping for example saying that all male nurses are gay. Bulling this is using your power to intimidate another person, it can be physical, written and verbal causing someone to be distress or having mental health
