Myths have been known to us since the early years of our lives. We all remember nights when our parents were reading for us before we fell asleep. Stories like “Cinderella”, “Little Red Riding Hood”, “Pinocchio” or “Lion King” are well known to all of us. When we were kids, myths were only fun stories with interesting funny characters. However, once we grew up we could understand that every myth has a hidden story to teach us something. Moreover, myths are not only for kids, there are plenty of adult books, movies and games based on a myth. People love myths with heroes not only for their supernatural power but also because they can relate to them. Linda Seger in her essay wrote: “We root for the hero and celebrate when he or she achieves the goal because we know that hero’s journey is in many ways similar to our own” which we all can agree with. We can attach key events in Shrek’s life to the typical hero’s adventure. At the beginning of the Shrek story he is just an ogre who lives in his swamp. He wants to live alone and doesn’t want to have any close relation with anyone. He seams to be happy alone ogre, that everyone is afraid of. In the second point of Linda’s Seger explanation of Hero Myth she talks about an important event that enters the hero’s life. Shrek’s calm and lonely life ends when all the fairy-tale characters come to his swam. The fact that Shrek is not living by himself anymore pushes him to the new adventure. All his life Shrek knew that everyone is afraid of him so when his swam was full of others who didn’t want to leave he had to do something. Willingness for having a lonely life was a beginning of the Shrek’s transformation. Shrek’s intention was only to come back to his quiet lonely life. However, because nothing is easy in life Shrek had to help Lord Farquaad. Shrek’s mission was to rescue the princess Fiona from the castle protected by the Dragon so Lord could marry her and become a
