Creating a Career in Impact

There are many problems that our society is facing, and social psychology plays a big role in solving such problems. Simply, Social Psychologists are interested in the individual, and how they impact and are impacted by the environment. There are many social entrepreneurs today that use business and social issues to improve the lives of people who are affected by these problems. There are many careers that require a social psychologist to solve major social problems like bullying in public schools. Positions in these careers create positive impact, and would personally be very rewarding work. To become a social psychologist, there are many skills and experiences that are necessary to succeed in this field.

Bullying can include verbal, physical and cyber. “Kids who are bullied are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, changes in sleep and eating patterns, loss of interest in activities they use to enjoy and decreased academic achievement” ("Effects of Bullying", 2018). Usually a rare occurrence, bullied children may also retaliate violently. Bullying can also contribute to the suicide rate in public schools. Stomp Out Bullying is a nonprofit organization that helps put a stop to bullying in public schools. This organization is creating a positive impact by “teaching effective solutions on how to respond to bullying, as well as provides help for those in need and at risk of suicide” ("STOMP Out Bullying", 2018). Public schools hire social psychologists that work for Stomp Out Bullying to examine the patterns and create programs to reduce or hopefully eliminate the negative
