Creative Writing: A Trip To Marsh Beach

Faint colors began to paint across the gray clouds. The rainbow lifted the warm colored trees around us, and brought life to the miserable Sunday afternoon. The sun started to peer through the clouds, and I could see everything; the hillside towards the lake, the pines woven in between pops of red and royal purple. It was one of those few moments where I had no words, my thoughts were just soaking in the landscape, unable to construct any sentences.

Even though today had started with sheets of heavy rain, my popop had insisted that we go to Marsh Creek. I hadn’t been so sure, but he was most certainly right. Popop and I refused to argue with her. While he snapped a few pictures I only began to soak it all in. The sky was slowly clearing up, reflecting gorgeous blue sky and white, fluffy clouds onto the formerly dull waters.

“Wow.” I whispered leaning against the hood of the green Subaru. “It’s really, really pretty”

“Yeah.” He sighed. “It is.” He gathered himself and stepped toward the driver’s side. “Should we check out the lake?” he asked.

I gave a quick nod and climbed straight back into the car.

“Onward!”, Marie yelled from the back seat.

“Oh shut up!” I laughed, while Popop gave me a disapproving look.

The car sprung to life as we cruised downhill. We all got out this time, running to lake’s edge. A bench was set near the water, sitting crooked against the miniature slope. Marie jumped down to the bank, pieces of rock cascading down her jeans. I followed after slipping down the muddy gravel and onto the silver-white chunks of rock set in the shallow parts of the lake. The water bubbled through them, crashing into hundreds of small ripples. The sky only had a few clouds, and the trees were glowing against the soft background of afternoon
