A bunch of smoke came from the top of the church…the church was on fire! Right at that moment you could hear the faintest scream come from inside the church, a child’s scream.
The woman went white. “I told them not to play in the church...I told them,” she said worried.
Pony boy and I ran to the church, the closer we got the more we could hear those screams. The door was locked so we had to break down a window and climb through. It was like walking into a furnace, the building could fall at any second. We found the children screaming in a corner. We broke through the door and forced them out of the room. Dally was on the outside and broke through a window so we could get the children out. We could hear the creaking of the roof, and we all knew any second it could fall down.

And right as I said that the building gave in, right on top of me. I screamed, than everything went black.
I woke up a couple days later,and I was at the hospital.Turns out I had broken my back, and my throat hurt so much I didn’t even bother talking. They told me I couldn’t see my friends until a couple days, but that didn’t stop Dally or Ponyboy from seeing me. Gosh, they were happy to see me. Ponyboy brought me another copy of Gone with the Wind so that he could read it to me to pass time.
