Credibility In Philosopher Boone's The Caged Graves

Every teenager’s ideal dream would be to move away home and start all over. But what if the home they moved from wasn’t really theirs, and the place they moved to was where they were supposed to be? Verity Boone is the main character in the book, “The Caged Graves”. Having been away from her own home for fifteen years after her mother’s death, Verity moves home to new and mysterious situations. Even though Verity’s decision to leave Worcester was difficult, ultimately staying away led to a better life for her and others.

After being in town for three days Verity joined her Aunt Clara at Cissy Clayton’s birthing. It wasn’t until the end of the and they were getting onto the horse and carriage, her aunt had said to her, “The reins are caught on the horse’s collar. Will you go and free them?” and so Verity did. After getting off the carriage she brushed the horses head, but the lantern was out and she couldn’t see. “It feels free to me, Aunt Clara.” “It’s on the other side.” Holding the horse’s head, Verity stepped in front of him and reached for the opposite rein. A sudden sharp crack split the air. The horse whinnied in surprise and lurched forward. Caught off guard, Verity lost her footing.” Although it seemed like an accident at the time, it was proven in the end that her Aunt had whipped the horse on purpose. She wanted Verity to be out of the picture the whole time because her daughter had eyes for Nathaniel, also. Just like how she felt when Asenath was married to John Thomas, Verity’s uncle. “Is that how you got your husband Aunt Clara? Verity said her voice shaking. By spilling blood? You poisoned them, didn’t you?
