Creon Tragic Hero In Antigone

One should be confident but not too convinced, if one holds their head too high, they will end up falling from grace. The dramatic play Antigone by Sophocles written in 441 B.C.E is a story of many different opinions contrasting each other leading to death, sadness and regret. The character Antigone fights for what she believes in against the king and the gods beliefs to bury her dead brother, Polyneices who died in a battle against his own brother Eteocles to win over the throne. After analyzing all the possibilities, the king, Creon is a tragic hero in the story because he survives all events, follows his own opinion and his choices later influence his life in the story.
In my opinion, a tragic hero is someone who “saves” everyone but theoretically doesn’t survive himself. The character may have achieved all he first wanted although by the end of the story, they might have learned other opinions but eventually loses everything. Antigone makes decisions according to her beliefs, even if she ends up in trouble for it. Creon has hubris and self worth, which proves that he has everything to be the tragic hero in the story. Creon is also the only character that was theoretically left with nothing. Everybody he cared about chose their own fate of committing suicide, which left him only with his kingdom.
The story has given us the conclusion that the tragic hero in the play Antigone, is Creon. The story has proved that making the right choices affect our life. He is described as the tragic hero because he has shown anagnorisis by surviving all events, although the people he mostly cares about was taken away from him because of his stubbornness, inflexibility and his cold hearted personality. Nevertheless, if one hold their head up too high, they may fall from grace into a deep dark hole with no
