Antigone’s acts of civil disobedience are effective in accomplishing her goal. Although Antigone accomplishes her goal of burying Polyneices, she pays the ultimate price in doing so. Although Antigone civically disobeyed King Creon’s law forbidding the burial of Polyneices, Creon punishes her. This shows that while civil disobedience is an effective method to accomplish a goal, it comes at a high price.
To protest against salt taxation in India, Gandhi leads a march to the sea to make salt from seawater in hopes of removing the tax on the vital mineral. This is an act of civil disobedience because the British forbid citizens of producing their own salt. Gandhi is peacefully protesting against a law that he disagrees with. However, the Indian police crushed the salt deposits to prevent Gandhi breaking the law, but Gandhi was able to create salt, therefore participating in civil disobedience.

In Japan, whaling boats harvest thousands of whales each year. Sea Shepherd USA is a marine wildlife conservation organization that annually attempts to reduce the number of whales slaughtered by the Japanese. The Japanese government prohibited Sea Shepherd USA from coming within 500 yards of whaling boats. However, during the harvesting season, Sea Shepherd USA came within less than 500 yards on multiple accounts, sometimes even blocking the path of whaling ships. They are risking their safety because not all whaling ships will stop when Sea Shepherd USA boats block their path and plan to sink the smaller ship. The annual quota for whales killed by the Japanese whaling boats is 1,035 but because of the efforts of the Sea Shepherd USA, only 103 whales were killed.
