The ultimate goal of American criminal justice is crime control through due process. Under this philosophy the objective is to protect individuals and to maintain public order and to protect individuals from injustice, especially at the hands of the government or criminal justice system. Although Herbert Packer stated that neither system is coherently better than the other (Peak, 2016, p. 12). Still at the top of the list in his listing under The Crime Control Model, he listed “the repression of crime is of the utmost importance” (Peak, 2016, p. 10).
