Society thinks only good people are expected to do good things. However, in S.E Hinton's The Outsiders this is not the case. One does not have to be "good" to do "good actions". In the book Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally saved little kids from a burning church, they didn't have to do it they just knew it was the right thing to do. On page 79 it says "He looked over his shoulder and saw that the door was blocked by flames, then pushed open the window and tossed out the nearest kid". Just because greasers and hoods are seen as delinquents does not mean they are always doing the wrong thing. If Pony, Johnny, and Darry were true "criminals" there is no way they would have gone out of there way to save some little kids. While some might say you do …show more content…
On page 22 Johnny speaks up "Leave her alone, Dally." "Huh?" Dally was taken off guard. He stared at Johnny in disbelief. Johnny couldn't say "Boo" to a goose. Johnny gulped and got a little pale, but he said, "You heard me. Leave her alone." Johnny wanted to protect Cherry from Dally because he knew that he was being annoying to her and she really appreciated his thought and effort. If Johnny wouldn't have "saved" Cherry from Dally she would've called the police. So Johnny decided to step in before anything ugly happened. If he was a terrible person he would've just sat back and watched that unfold. While some might say you do have to be good to do good actions, however it is the opposite, this is shown through the good deed performed by Johnny you have just read. Two-Bit kind of liked Cherry and Marcia so he decided to be a gentleman. On page 33 it says "AFTER THE MOVIE was over it suddenly came to us that Cherry and Marcia didn't have a way to get home. Two-Bit gallantly offered to walk them home." Two-Bit didn't want to come across as mean and rude so he decided to do what was right. If he did want to come across as mean and rude he would've ignored her and let her walk home alone. While some might say you do have to be good to do good actions, however it is the opposite, this is shown through the good deed performed by Two-Bit you have just …show more content…
After Johnny killed Bob him and Pony went to Buck's house to ask Dally for supplies and advice, "Dally appeared after a minute. He carefully shut the door. "Here"--- he handed us a gun and a roll of bills--- "the gun's loaded." Then he took it one step further,"Hop the three-fifteen freight to Windrixville," Dally instructed. "There's an old abandoned church on top of Jay Mountain. There's a pump in back so don't worry about water. Buy a week's supply of food as soon as you get there--- this morning, before the story gets out, and then don't so much as stick your noses out the door. I'll be up there as soon as I think it's clear." Dally didn't want his friends to get in trouble so he helped them out as much as possible. If Dally didn't help them out the rest of the greasers probably would've killed him. While some might say you do have to be good to do good actions, however it is the opposite, this is shown through the good deed performed by Dally you have just read. To do do the right thing you do not always have to be seen as a good person. I can guarantee you that almost every criminal or delinquent has done at least one good deed throughout their life. Good people aren't always good, and bad people aren't always bad. Johnny killed a man, but wasn't he sorry and didn't he save a couple kids lives? Society thinks only good people are expected to do good things. However, in S.E
