Describe the goals of the criminal justice system The criminal justice system has many goals that have been accomplished or have yet to be accomplished. However, there are some goals that are more important than others that deserve more attention. One goal that the criminal justice system is commonly known for is catching lawbreakers. Another goal that the criminal justice system strives for is establishing a fair and just system toward victims of a crime. One last goal that the criminal justice system has is dealing with abuse of power among police officers. One of the main goals of the criminal justice system is commonly represented as catching lawbreakers and enforcing the laws. According to the textbook "The American System of Criminal Justice" (chapter 6 page 5-3d) "According to public opinion polls, the crime-fighter image of the police remains firmly rooted in citizens' minds and is the main reason given by recruits for joining the force".
