My interest in the legal field came through my various experiences traveling the globe, especially in my parents’ country of birth, Brazil. Growing up, I had been very fortune to have been able to travel anywhere in the world free of charge. Early on in my childhood, I was faced with the harsh reality of inequality during my family visits in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Stopping at red lights, there would be children my age juggling items in front of cars in order to receive some type of reward. My uncle was lucky enough to have worked is way into the upper class of Brazilian society, so I questioned why he would give the children a package of cookies rather than money for food. My travels to Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Mexico, and Bermuda has made me appreciate my American living standards, but also has made interested in helping those in need. The growing concern of abuse on human rights is the key factor for my interest in law school. As a child, I dreamed of working for the United Nations and making real change in the world. I know that a way I can get involved in the helping people and communities around the globe is to enter the international law field. Although I have not completely decided on exactly if I want to do international law, I know that attending a rigorous and diverse institution like Hofstra University, will help me decide exactly what to do. Having been raised by immigrant parents and traveling into these third-world countries, I know that I am the type of driven and dedicated student that will make the most out of their law school experience in order to make real change in the world. I will not stop working towards of my dream of helping those in need until I have pushed myself to the point where nothing else can be done by me.
