Americans experience in the last half century with crimes is the reason for the way our criminal justice system works the way that it does today. It has influenced the criminal justice system today. There have been many crime waves from 1850 to 1880 caused by the Civil War. In the mid-1980s the increase in drugs, and drug gangs, because of that evolution that is why we have the laws concerning them today. The increase in reported crimes such as rape, murder, and assault in the 1970s and into the 1980s. The 1960s and 1970s saw concern for women, racial minorities, and other groups. One of the components are the police. The police are responsible for community safety, enforcing the law, and arrest the offenders. The police must be well informed of the rights and freedom of individuals, they also need to be well informed of citizens and civil rights so they do not violate those rights. The second component is the criminal courts. The criminal courts uphold the law, decide on the criminal case, and ensure due process. The last component in the criminal justice system is correctional agencies. The correctional agencies carry out sentences advised by the courts and supervise the inmate as they do their sentences. Correctional agencies can be found in county jails and county jails where inmates serve their sentences. These investigations can involve interviewing the offender’s friend, family, anyone that they might know, and gathering criminal history. They can keep reporting their process to the court.
