I will be writing a short report on legislation, strategies, and working practices that govern the safeguarding of adults.
The legislations and regulations which the govern safeguarding adults work Care standards act 2000 act focuses on the health and social acre workers and the needs of vulnerable adults under their care. This safeguards and protects vulnerable adults. The care standards act aims to ensure that nobody is allowed to work in the care sector if they have abused or neglected anyone as they could harm people in the care and put them to risk.
This is why it is important to check the persons DBS making sure they do not have any criminal records. Disability discrimination act is aimed at reducing discrimination towards people who are disabled. This also includes people who are blind and partially sighted, however anyone who has any sort of disability is protected under this act. This law was changed into the equality act 2010.
In relation to health and social care individuals must not get discriminated or neglected if they have a disability however this can occur in care homes and other environments. Some people may not be aware of this act. It is important to have positive thinking and good attitude towards disabled residents.
Data protection act controls how your personal information is used by organisations, businesses or the government. It is important to follow the principles for example it must be accurate and making sure it is kept safe and secure. In relation to health and social care it stops information being passed around, the service users and staff feel more secure as they are aware of the information is protected and could also enable stronger relationship as there is trust. This act helps protect everyone no matter what their background is however there can be outdated and multi-agency workers don’t have all the information. Safeguarding vulnerable groups act is to help people from harm by stopping people who are seen unsuitable to work with kids and vulnerable adults. The purpose of this act is to restrict contact between the vulnerable adult and the person who may want to cause them harm.in relation to health and social care staff need to provide services for vulnerable people if something went wrong. This enables trust and a good relationship between the staff and the individual. Vulnerable adults will also feel more open and comfortable to open up information about what’s happened instead of disclosing. This legislation has helped stopped people from harming however the government can’t find everyone who wants to harm vulnerable adults. The care homes regulation and national minimum standards for care homes delivery of care in a number of settings. The national minimum standards must be met by registered care homes, adult placements and domiciliary care services. This prevents you from being abused in the care home as it includes protection from abuse. There are policies and procedures that are underpinned by effective working practices that protect vulnerable adults. However care workers may not follow the policies and procedures and may just put an act on when it’s time for inspection. The working procedures which are used in health and social care to reduce the risk of abuse. Recruiting of staff POVA has been replaced which was in place since 2004. This lists those who have been barred from working with vulnerable adults. For this there are two categories as people also are automatically barred because they offer a risk of threat and those who offer a very probable risk of harm. The barring process gathers information from various sources such as the police for example criminal records bureau as well as health and social services and employers. It looks closely at previous offences and evidence of inappropriate harm and potentially harmful, behaviour before a barring decision is made.
