Good morning/evening Film Board,

The film that I have chosen to be entered into the international competition is, Crocodile Dundee.
I have chosen this film because it represents the social values, beliefs and some events that contributed to the cultural identity of Australia. The film includes humour scenes which made it even more popular.
Crocodile Dundee was the “world-wide hit” of 1986. This film was very popular in Australia as well overseas. The audience response to this film was ecstatic proud. Because of the popularity of this film Crocodile Dundee II followed shortly. This film entered into the public record in a way no Australian film or television series has before. In the first instance the release of the film contributed financially to the community as it was the most successful release ever. It became a phenomenon which gave people a sense of coherency. The film is displaying several social aspects that are unique to Australia.
The advertising of the film involved public participation, events and social events. In this way the film gave a social context and message to the world. The film was suitable for diverse audiences.
Secondly this film includes some of the cultural values of Australia. This film showcased the most recognizable and popular Australian figures. This statement speaks for itself in the following quote in the film: “Well you see; Aborigines don’t own the land. They belong to it. It is like their mother. See those rocks? Been standing there for 600 million years. Still be there when you and I are gone. So arguing over who owns them is like two fleas arguing over who owns the dog they live on.”
Crocodile Dundee had a huge influence on Australia and the world. This film generated immense good will for Australia and the tourism industry benefitted greatly from this especially from the United States.
