When I was little, I was never the quiet or shy one in class. I was always raising my hand to volunteer for anything. Kids in class used to call me the loud girl, considering I talked to people I didn’t know, just as comfortable as talking to my own family. I always knew I had some great level of confidence and leadership so it was sixth grade I decided to join the cross country team and test those skills. After three years, I became the captain of my team and continued be known as the loud girl that talked to everyone. During my final season of cross country, before I would enter my high school season, I met a girl just starting in middle school. She couldn’t have been more opposite to me. She did not say much and she really didn’t hang out in the big crowd like myself. It became my goal that season to make her as comfortable as possible not even because I was captain of the team and was “expected” to do that. The personality I have just made me feel that no one should feel they couldn’t speak out or feel comfortable on their own team. I continued to run cross country which became more of a passion rather than a hobby. After two years, I entered my junior year ready for my next season. During the team’s first week of practice, I noticed a very familiar face. It was the quiet girl from middle school! She was still very quiet and kept to herself but that didn’t stop me from going right up to her with the other team members to talk to her. She had become very special to me on the team. Whenever the team went on runs and she fell behind, I would stay with her so she didn’t feel left out or defeated.
