This film is a good adaptation of The Crucible by Arthur Miller; however, the film does put scenes and quotes in different spots. Two examples could be the lumber argument and when Reverend Hale comes. In the play, the lumber argument sets up a conflict with Putnam, John, and Giles, but in the movie, the lumber argument occurs through a window when a person is just walking by. Hale comes during Elizabeth and John’s argument in the play, but in the movie he comes at the beginning. The movie successfully establishes Abigail’s character by emphasizing her mischief within the town. The producers of the movie added two scenes about Abby and John. In one scene, they are in the woods as Abby is trying to win John. Another is before John’s confession.
