Cultural competence is the ability to interact with people of different cultures. We need to ensure the needs and issues of the whole community. There are many challenges that affect the criminal justice system when dealing with cultural diversity. These challenges are constantly change from the demands inside and outside of the system. These demands raise the bar to an already pressured criminal justice system. It is empirical for criminal justice organizations to keep up with the ever-changing world we live in, as society is always changing. Professionals should carry out their duties without prejudices and malice towards members of society and different cultures. When there are prejudices, criminal justice organizations face challenges of achieving fairness, handling cases related to terrorism, and accurately directing justice.

Achieving fairness is a challenge because it directly addresses cultural and legal codes of conduct. The court of law must seek to always perform its tasks without discrimination and showing favoritism. For example, if a case involves someone of a certain status (politician, celebrity, etc.), judges, magistrates, or other employees may be drawn to show favoritism to these individuals,

Perfect example is cases that involve terrorism. The ability of leading groups to be impartial and still pursue the law and not people or certain groups is a challenge because powerful officials in several high government positions directly influence these types of cases. For example, after the attacks on September 11, there was an immediate societal pressure to eliminate terrorism. In trying to do so, most Islamic followers were put under observation, regardless of whether they were terrorists. This raises concerns on how effective leaders are in reviewing these cases and enforcing laws without discriminating against all
