Today, there are many people in the United States that come from different parts of the world. People from other places have different cultures, languages, and ways of living. Cultural Competence is dealing with the person in a way where they would feel comfortable talking. Good communication between the person serving another and the person being served is important to have. It is important to have cultural competence when working with diverse populations in health care because it would help stop a barrier that happens when a person has a different background than yours. When there is no cultural competence in the health care system there may be misunderstanding of what the person’s needs are.
