In a day and age where things like movie rental stores no longer exist, a music album can be purchased with the tap of a finger, and a meal at a restaurant is not complete without a photo, it only makes sense to move students towards a communication style that's effective in our present times. Nowadays, teaching cursive is almost a waste of curriculum as people are becoming more frequently expected to type and use online resources for school and work. Cursive does have it's benefits, as it improves penmanship, and writing a signature is an everyday activity. Speed and fluidity is especially important when writing long pieces, or pages of notes, but is achieved when typing rather than hand writing. Now, pieces homework being assigned by teachers are often accessible online, rather than in the classroom. When a teacher assigns an essay to students now, they're likely going to emphasize its need for a size 12 font and double spacing. If kids are growing up more and more tech-savvy due to what they're forced to learn in school, why force them to learn something that will soon be forgotten completely by the department of education?

Today, with computers and smart devices being so easily accessible to the public, it's logical to teach students to use the advanced resources they have in front of them. Yes, technology is expensive and not always immediately available within the household, but libraries, schools and after school programs often have these resources available to the public. With this easy availability, it's expected of people to know how to use things such as computers with ease.
