Cybercrime can include but is not limited to child pornography, identity theft, online scams and credit card fraud. It is hard to record the extent of cybercrime because it is usually just recorded as a conventional crime or just fraud. We can control cybercrime by using copy-right infringement. If we would get stricter on first time offenders maybe we would be able to deter others from attempting to do cybercrime.Cybercrime
What is cybercrime in your own words?
I would define cybercrime as illegal and unusual activity over the internet. Cybercrime can include, but not limited to child pornography, identity theft, online scams, and credit card fraud. It attacks innocent individuals and businesses by stealing personal information and putting it to misuse. The U.S Department of Justice describes three types of cybercrimes: those that use the computer as a weapon, those that use the computer as an accessory to the crime, and those that make the computer a target of the crime (Denise Brandenberg, 2014). As a victim, all of this can make you feel like you are facing a powerful invisible attacker. Some people might feel embarrassed about this kind of crime, because they have been tricked or think they could have done more to protect themselves.
What is the extent of cybercrime in the United States?
The extent of cybercrime in the U.S is popular because it happens almost every day to so many people. It is hard to record the extent of cyber crime because it is usually recorded as a conventional crime or fraud (Regina 2013). There are a lot of hackers that cost the U.S millions of dollars annually. Law enforcements often watch for suspicious activity, but there are many that are never reported to them. There are businesses that do not report cybercrimes because they do not want to reveal a weakness in their network security. Computer software and copying involves low-visibility acts that are rarely detected. The internet has become a major place for illegal activity.
How do you think we should control/enforce cybercrime?
I think we could control cybercrime by using copyright infringement. This would provide penalties for first time offenses dealing with cybercrime. We should use software piracies that criminalize accessing computer systems without authorization. We can also control cyber crime by making sure we don’t use personal information with people we do not know. We should never give out information…
