The Chrysanthemums Rhetorical Precis English professor at Adrian College in Michigan, Cynthia Bily, in her essay, “The Chrysanthemums” (2002) argues that there is a considerable connection between Elisa and ecofeminism that is worth being extensively explored. She supports her claim by first establishing an appropriate definition of ecofeminism, as well as, providing historical background on the term. Then, she provides textual evidence that suggests the flowers in Elisa’s garden made her feel strong and powerful, emotions she lacks in her normal routine. Next, she suggests that Elisa’s garden is her escape from the frustrations and subordination she experiences from her husband. Bily’s purpose in writing this essay is to examine the connections
