In this assessment I aim to explain in depth children and young people's development. I will explain how children develop and what support a child may require whilst developing and the role of theories in the Early Years Provision. I also aim to analyse these theories in order to show how they support meeting the needs and requirements of children and young people. This will then be evaluated to portray the impact on practice of the theories analysed. I will also explain principles of development, stages and sequences of development, physical development, emotional development, social development, communication and speech development, intellectual development and factors affecting growth and development in relation to children and young people. Finally i will explain how child development influenced the learning that takes place today.

There are several different areas of development. The five main areas consist of the following. Cognitive Development, Social and Emotional Development, Speech and language Development, Fine Motor Skill Development and Gross Motor Skill Development. Cognitive development is an individual child's skills and ability in which to learn and solve problems gaining self-esteem and independence. For example, this could be a one year old child trying to pronounce simple words like 'mommy' and 'daddy'. Social and emotional development is an individual child's ability in which to communicate with others. For example, this could be a 11month old young baby trying to laugh. Speech and language development is an individual child's ability in which to use language and understand it. For example, a young baby at the age of 11months trying to say his/her first for such as 'mommy' and having the knowledge to understand who his/her 'mommy' is. Fine motor skill development is the child's ability to use their body in which to move, especially their hands and fingers
