2.2: Describe the actions to take when children or young people are ill or injured. Describe the actions that are taken in your setting when a child is:
Ill: All schools must have one qualified first aider. It is essential that you know who the first aider is in your school is, and how to contact him or her. You need to know how the person can be contacted. There may be intercom system or red card, or orange card system alert. This depends on the urgency of support needed. The main signs of illness in a child are no energy, poor appetite, constipation or diarrhoea, raised body temperature, skin rash, vomiting, a cough, headache, stomach ache, runny nose, change in behaviour such as not sleeping well, crying and unusually quiet. There will be clear procedures displayed in all area of the school. The information states what to do if one hears the fire alarm. How to raise the alarm in the event of a fire, if the fire alarm does not go up immediately. The way people should take towards the assembly point. Registers should be taken to make sure that all children and everybody is safe and out of the building. Personal belongings are not allowed to be taken when exiting during a fire incident. Reentering into the building after exiting the building is not a safe thing to do. It is important to know the different area of the school and the different routes from each area one work. There should me the constant practice of the evacuating of children from the building safely. This will improve your confidence.
B} SECURITY: The security procedures should be put in place in other to minimize risk to children. It is very important that people follow the school procedures always. Such security procedures like security locks on doors, signing in and out, putting on the visitor’s badges, procedures for collecting of children. When you notice someone you are not sure of, always report it to someone higher than you, or to the school
