CYP Core 3.4 – Support Children and Young People’s Health and Safety

1.1 Describe the factors to take into account when planning healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environments and services
When planning a healthy and safe environment in my setting I have to take into account a number of factors.
The space I have and the space I allow the children in my care to use. For example the children have quiet time in the front room, messy time and free play in the play room and the garden, the children do not go into the kitchen apart from to pass through to the bathroom or to observe our prepared food going into the oven.
I also have to take into account how many children I am caring for, and their ages and stage.

I allow children time to experience the outdoors and the climbing apparatus at the park. I let them know I am there if they need my help but encourage them to asses what they think is a danger and what they are comfortable in doing. This allows children to gain the confidence in their own ability knowing I am close by if they get in a tricky situation.

4.1, 4.2 Explain and Identify the policies and procedures of the setting or service in response to accidents, incidents, emergencies and illness
Accident and incident policy is that the child’s safety is paramount and I do everything in my power to ensure no accidents or incidents happen in y care, but I am aware accidents do happen. My procedure is as follows
¬ I will comfort the child and reassure them.
¬ I will assess the extent of their injuries and if necessary call for medical support/ambulance.
¬ I will carry out any first aid procedures that are necessary, but only ones I am trained to do.
¬ Once the child is more settled I will contact you to inform you of the accident and if I feel it is needed I will ask you to collect your child or meet me at the hospital.
After every accident however minor it is I will:
