Lies have been the biggest problem in life today. They are everywhere and there’s no way to stop it. Personally I tell lies all the time, I think it just is part of life and there’s no way around it. With all the lies I say, I always get some kind of consequence. For some reason we still think that we should lie. Lies are also present in the play Cyrano de Bergerac, by Edmond Rostand, when someone would say a lie that would seem harmless at first, but eventually deceit will lead to tragic consequences. Lies can turn into personal harm, broken relationships, and lifelong unhappiness.

The lies being told may seem harmless at first, however eventually will turn to personal harm. Roxane reads the letter to The monk that De Guiche wrote to her, but changed it so The monk would marry Roxane and Christian by saying “Christian must secretly become your husband” (399). This shows that Roxane came up with a lie to trick The monk to marry her and Christian. Roxane thought this lie would be harmless and would not hurt anybody. If she would have not told the lie to the monk, then the consequences from the telling the lie would have not happened. What Roxane didn’t know was that it could hurt her more than she could imagine when De Guiche finds out and says “The regiment is leaving! It’s leaving!” (399). De Guiche is saying that now that Roxane tricked him to get married to Christian, He is getting back

There can be personal harm like I stated, there could also be broken relationships, and there can lifelong unhappiness and to me I think this could be the worst consequence. In the end, lies have consequences and you always have to be aware of what could happen if you say something that is not truthful. Always know the risks you take from lying, and try to be as honest as
