The Erie Canal was a great contraption made to boost economics in the 19th century. An example is that the cost of shipping between areas was much faster and cheaper before the making of the Erie Canal. (Doc 2) This made it so that farmers could get their products to the market faster. (OI) Virginia Schomp of New York Celebrates the states said this, “This new waterway not only connected the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Lakes, it caused a terrific boon in industry all along the Hudson river.” (Doc 1) Then, the New York State Canal Corporation said this, “ Within 15 years of the Erie Canal’s opening, New York was the busiest port in America.” (Doc 1) This example showed how much economics boomed during this time. The economics boom was huge.
