Dagny and Hank are Antagonists In the movie Atlas Shrugged, Dagny and Hank are everybody's favorite everyday heros. They challenge the system and do whatever needs to be done. Atlas Shrugged paints a picture of the perfect business owners Dagny and Hank. In this story they are the protagonist while the Government is the antagonist. But if the script was flipped, it would be easy to see that Dagny and Hank are actually the “villains” of this story. Atlas Shrugged shows the story from the perspective of Dagny, making it seem that the hero's (Dagny and Hank) can do no wrong. The movie made it seem as if laws such as you can’t quit your job, were directed at Dagny. But laws like producing the same amount as the year before, was to prevent the tycoons from taking over every industry. In the long run, the Government’s goal is to give everyone what they need and what is “fair”. Other aspects of Dagny and Hank’s behavior can be put into perspective when you take a step back. For instance, Dagny has little concern for the public health. She is willing to use new and untrusted metal for her rail lines just to make more money. She also ordered trains to run on old and probably unsafe rail lines after the tunnel blew up.
