The Daily Life at Auschwitz The year of 1940 is known as unforgettable. Many people in this year were sent to the twisted death camp known as Auschwitz and were tortured and killed miserably. So many Jewish lives were lost in this year and years to come for no reason, mostly out of just pure hate. What did they exactly do during these horrific filled days? Let’s find out their deathly daily routine. Could your family survive the schedule? To kick off the miserable death packed day, the morning routine began at 4:00am followed by hollers and orders screaming to, “Get up!” With a total of 700 hundred prisoners per block and only 180 sleeping places in each, you can imagine everyone getting up at one time moving around. Along with the nights the mornings were especially cold in the winter. After all, there was only a few coal filled tile stove’s that attempted to keep the place warm. There was also no electric lighting in any of the barracks or any source of natural lighting, which caused a lot of collision between the 700 inmates per block. Once the Jews returned back to their barrack during this time, they are not allowed to leave after entering. This is when the SS men and other guards could have some, “fun,” with the prisoners. This meant ordering them to crawl, jump, or simply run until you faint or until left for dead. The prisoners now could enter their beds and rest, or wait for dinner, but rest wasn’t the easiest thing to do when you have five strangers in a bunk with you and only one blanket to share.
