The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, that lasted from 1999 to 2015, was a political satire television show that highlighted serious issues with a heavy hint of sarcasm and mockery. The show is seen as a “fake news” TV show but does involve current events, just with a twist that brings humor into the political world. Although Jon Stewart was the main focus of the show, he had a few correspondents, such as Jessica Williams, who helped out with certain skits. One of the most iconic segments of the show came from Jessica Williams, a correspondent for the show, who went out to the streets of New York to really address the problem of cat-calling and street harassment for women. The segment tilted “Jessica’s Feminized Atmosphere” begins with men “explaining” how feminism has ruined life for men and how they have to watch what they say in order to not be seen as predators to women. Although it is full of satirical material and there are a few laughs, the way Jessica mocks the people who say street harassment is “flattering” shows how ridiculous they look for defending it. She argues that women don’t like men calling out to them and making them feel uncomfortable with derogatory phrases, like the words “I want to fuck you in the ass” a woman in the segment heard from a man on the street. With the use of satire, Jessica Williams can hear the experiences of women being harassed on the street and saying things like “loosen up already” after hearing a woman’s safety felt compromised by men yelling after her. She lets the women speak about how uncomfortable they were and then adds clips from TV shows where people say cat-calling is flattering and that men just find you attractive so they express it, showing how contradictory and repulsive it is to say what they did when women are scared for their
