I have chosen to write about Ashley Dillard who played as the remarkable Kate Mundy who managed to convey her dominance to us while slowly expressing her hidden emotions and feelings that allowed me to fully engage with the majestic play “Dancing at Lughnasa” that I had watched on the 1st of October.
The scene I have chosen is when Kate Mundy first enters the scene who is presented as a friendly aunt to Michael. We are given the impression of her to be the elderly and more dominant one in the family as she seems to be the educated one judging from her occupation as a teacher. Her intention in her entrance into the scene is to be responsible as can be seen by her mass purchases of medicine, books, and groceries so she can remain empowered in

This change in her beat influenced her sisters to go to Lughnasa, until, the radio decided to stop working signaling them that it was indeed a bad idea reinforcing Kate’s pessimistic ideas of being too old for dancing.
The character of Kate Mundy was very well brought together by her changes in her emotions that she establishes to provide the audience a sensitive and ¬¬suspenseful character that she covers up with her dominant role allowing us to perceive her as the unstable one but a character who cares a lot about her family as can be seen after the scene Agnes calls her a “bitch” which she takes whole heartedly influencing her to express her fear in losing her siblings to us by her conversation with Margaret.
Moreover, we as the audience encounter Kate with several props that serve several purposes. She is seen to read a newspaper during the scene Gerry first appears as she wanted to prove her lack of interest in Gerry and his affection for Christy. She constantly shakes the newspaper and moves from page to page to develop her personality as an educated and self- righteous person who is trying to seek
