Technology can be society’s best friend, and technology can also be the biggest party pooper of society’s lives. It interrupts our own story, interrupts our ability to have a thought or a daydream, to imagine something wonderful, because people are too busy bridging the walk from the cafeteria back to the office on the cell phone.”- Steven Spielberg. Montag’s wife, Mildred, is an example. She became so addicted to a false reality from interactive televisions. She started to never come out of the house. An example from the story of how Mildred loses her life cause of the interactive televisions said,” ‘How long you figure before we save up and get the fourth wall torn out and a fourth wall-TV put in? It's only two thousand dollars.’ ‘That's one-third of my yearly pay.’ ‘It's only two thousand dollars,’” she replied.” ‘And I should think you'd consider me sometimes.’ “(Bradbury 9). This proves that she has no life anymore because she would rather spend money on another televisions to entertain herself instead of staying finically stable. It is almost like how modern day drug dealers would rather spend money for the use of drugs then spend money to eat. Another side effect to the technology in Fahrenheit 451 is the government or criminals would have control over the population. If the government had dogs that could track down anybody and capture them without breaking a sweat, they definitely have control of the population. If the criminals had it they could do the same as the government and kill anybody without any dirty work. The dogs would be similar to government soldiers except they have no fear or pain. A example from the story says,” Montag, a funny thing. Heard tell this morning. Fireman in Seattle, purposely set a Mechanical Hound to his own chemical complex and let it loose.
