Daniel Hale Williams was born in Pennsylvania on January 18, 1856. His mother was Sarah Price Williams and his dad was Daniel hake Williams the II. Elder Williams died when Daniel his son was 10 years old. He was then sent to Baltimore, Maryland, with family friends. There he became a shoe makers apprentice. He didn’t like the work very much. So later he decided to return to his family who then lived in Illinois. His father was into barbering so that is what Daniel then decided to do. He ultimately decided he wanted to partake his education so he worked as an apprentice with this dude named Dr. Henry Palmer. He was a surgeon. Daniel completed his training at Chicago medical college. As Williams got older he set up his own practice in Chicago. He got his nickname as Dr. Dan, but his full name is Daniel Hale William III. Back in his day due to discrimination African American citizens, black doctors were refused staff positions. He Believed it didn’t matter so May 1891, Dan opened provident hospital and training for nurses. This was the nations first hospital with a nursing and intern program that had a racially integrated staff. You go boy!!!

In 1893 Dan performed one of the greatest surgeries in history. Operating on James Cornish, a man with a bad stabbing to the chest. Dr. Dan performed Americas first open heart surgery on this

More like some wouldn't have no life. Open heart surgery might not have been possible today. His legacy lives on but not just for what he accomplished medically… he didn’t let race defy him. He felt that whether you are black, white, yellow, or pink… we are all the same. Thats a legacy that should be remembered and live on. Thats something I would be proud to stand for. He not only made medical history. He never let race define who he was we are all equals in his eyes. It is one thing to make medical history then its another to make a difference in
